RES|TOE|RUN holds first-ever Music Kicks Feeture Film Contest

Aiming to spark the artistic spirit among the Filipino youth, Res|Toe|Run, the country’s premier shoe store that has a unique concept of a “restaurant,” held the first-ever Music Kicks Feeture Film Competition which culminated last October 5 at the Trinoma Mall Activity Center.

The one-of-a-kind contest engaged students from all corners of the metro with an eye for art and a passion for fashionable kicks to let out their inner geniuses. With the undying legacy of MTV’s glory days in mind combined with their shoe sensibilities, these hallmarks served as the backbone to which they should base the framework of their stories – infusing all these to come up with a unique, riveting, and creative short film told from the perspective of one’s feet.

Using an official track provided by Res|Toe|Run, participants were tasked to create a three- to four-minute video highlighting any of the following shoe brands - DC, Fitflop, Kickers, Sanuk, Ellesse, Boxfresh, Shulong, Quicksilver, Roxy, Columbia, Lotto, Keen, Free Fish, Salvatos, KruZin, PeopleSwalk, Swims, Bedroom Athletics, Marie Claire, Swyt, Seavees, Desigual, Sledgers, Boxfresh, Tretorn, Supra, Sorel, Salomon and Flipsters -   all of which falls under the store’s core categories of Res for comfortable casual footwear, Toe for toe flaunting flip-flops and sandals, and Run for active and athletic-inspired footwear.

Top colleges and universities such as the University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, Southville International School and Colleges, Far Eastern University, Asia Pacific College, University of Santo Tomas, and Assumption College, each had their artistic ambassadors to represent their school. Without a doubt, the competition solicited a highly competitive spirit and rose up the level of performance and creativity as exceptional entries flowed freely.

Each of the entries were graded by esteemed professionals in the field of creative advertising, television, and film. The panel consisted of Mr. Raoul Floresca, AVP for Marketing Services Division, Primer Group of Companies, Ms. Joy Austria, Res|Toe|Run Brand Manager, Mr. Sid Maderazo, TV Commercials Director and Post Production partner at 88storey Films / Central Digital Lab, and Mr. Steve Vesagas, Chief Operating Officer, Revolucion Media Group and Producer of the critically-acclaimed movie, On The Job.

In keeping with the digital times as well as to add spice to the competition, the final results were based on the results of online voting. Starting last September 16 until 27, students, school faculty members, friends, and families were allowed to help their teams win the title by watching and voting for the video entries through Res|Toe|Run’s Facebook page.

According to Dale Camandang, Marketing Communications Officer for Res|Toe|Run, “Besides being a creative outlet, the contest enabled the youth to realize that incredible things can happen when they get to work on something they all enjoy, and eventually get the just rewards that they all deserve.”
All the hard work of the artistic mavens paid off during the two-day culminating event as Res|Toe|Run held one heck of an exciting musical event.

During the event, Monster Radio’s DJ Alven and Ysa hosted the musical affair wherein attendees enjoyed different performances which fused three dance acts of Hip-hop, contemporary, and parkour as presented by the Halili Cruz School of Ballet, the UP Street Dance, and the Philippine Parkour/Free Running Association. Beatbox Acapella  and the Nameless Heroes also performed their unique type of music during the event.  After which, guests got to enjoy numerous side activities and booth displays that style aesthetes and artsy young ones surely enjoyed.

A raffle segment was also held to keep the attendees at their toes. Finally, based on the criteria of originality, cinematography, editing, sound design, and social media research, the top three winners were announced and received each of their corresponding prizes of P100,000 for the grand prize winner, P70,000 for the second placer, and P50,000 for the third placer. Both student-representatives and their schools received cash and gift certificate awards.

Res|Toe|Run’s Music Kicks Feeture Film Competition was presented in part by the Primer Group of Companies, Kickers, Sanuk, DC, Native, Boxfresh,  Tretorn, Supra, Shulong, Fitflop, Columbia, and Roxy.  The event was also co-presented by Ayala-Trinoma Mall and supported by Tokyo Tokyo.
